How does round robin scheduling work?

In a single round robin every team plays every other team exactly once. For six teams, that is 15 matches across five rounds. In a double round robin, the reverse fixtures are also added, producing 30 matches over ten rounds.

The generator uses the circle scheduling method to arrange matchups and spread them across rounds. If you add an odd number of participants, one participant receives a bye each round. The schedule contains all possible pairings; it does not allocate calendar dates or venues.

Who can use the fixture generator?

This tool works for football leagues, five-a-side leagues, darts tournaments, board-game nights, chess tournaments and informal workplace competitions. Export the schedule to CSV for use in Excel or Google Sheets.

How many games will I need?

For N participants, a single round robin has N × (N − 1) ÷ 2 matches. A home-and-away competition doubles that total.

Can I schedule return fixtures?

Yes. Select “Home and away” to create another full set of games with the participants swapped.

With an odd number of teams, the schedule includes a rest round (bye) for one team each round. No match is created against the bye placeholder.

How to create football league fixtures

Enter the teams or players, one per line. Choose Everyone plays once for a single round robin or Home and away for return fixtures. Generate the schedule, then copy it into your group chat or download it as a CSV.

Match pairings and rounds are generated automatically, but dates, kick-off times, venues and referees are not assigned. You can add those details after exporting the schedule. When games have been played, use our free league table maker to record scores and calculate standings.
